Wonderful footstool with a wooden structure and a brown leather seat, made in the 70s. It has double curved legs, in the shape of an X, reminiscent of the Roman curule chair (in Latin, sella curulis), a seat reserved for people most illustrious of society, the magistrates. The upholstery of the seat is quilted and studded. Capitoné is an upholstery technique that consists of making diamond-shaped markings on the fabric and foam, securing the fabric with buttons.
According to Tito Livio, the chair came from Etruria; however, this type of "scissor chair" was already known in the New Kingdom of Egypt. They were usually made of ivory, without a back and with low arms. It was easily transportable, for example so that it could also be used by military leaders on campaign.
In reality, its use has never been lost, as its shape has served as an inspiration over the years. For example, the famous Barcelona Chair by Mies van der Rohe is directly inspired by its structure. It even reached China, through the Silk Road.
The perfect mix between classicism and avant-garde.
