Great 17th century Italian painting. Oil on canvas artwork of the Emilian school, depicting a biblical subject, David and Abigail of excellent pictorial quality. Painting of exceptional size and impact, adorned with a non-coeval wooden frame, from the 20th century, carved, lacquered and gilded, of beautiful decoration. Painting of great pictorial intensity, full of pathos, for antique dealers, interior decorators and collectors. Artwork that represents the moment in which Abigail, wife of Nabal, begs David to forgive the offense suffered by her husband. David, finding himself in trouble in the desert, sent servants to Nabal of Carmel, reminding him of the protection previously offered by his people to his men and flocks. Nabal rejected them and David, offended and angry, decided to take revenge by attacking Nabal with the intention of killing all the male children of his family. Abigail, warned of her imminent attack, secretly from her husband, brought David a large number of provisions and begged him to spare her people. Painting that has undergone a conservative restoration, re-lined, replacement of the frame and color recovery in some points (see photo).
