Al pintar este lugar, no me interesaba solo reproducir un monumento; sino capturar la carga emocional que proyecta. La gran cruz que corona la montaña se convierte aquí en un eje silencioso, casi suspendido sobre un fondo dorado que no pretende ser realista, sino simbólico: un espacio donde el tiempo parece detenido. Ese dorado envuelve la escena con una luz solemne, casi litúrgica, que transforma la arquitectura en algo más interior que físico.

La explanada vacía, amplia y fría, funciona como un umbral. No hay figuras humanas porque quiero que sea el espectador quien ocupe ese espacio, quien decida cómo acercarse a la basílica y a lo que representa. Los árboles laterales enmarcan la composición como si fueran testigos antiguos, ajenos a la historia pero presentes en ella.

When painting this place, I wasn't interested in merely reproducing a monument, but rather in capturing the emotional weight it projects. The great cross crowning the mountain becomes a silent axis here, almost suspended over a golden background that does not aim to be realistic, but symbolic: a space where time seems to have stopped. This gold envelops the scene in a solemn, almost liturgical light, transforming the architecture into something more interior than physical. The empty esplanade, vast and cold, acts as a threshold.

There are no human figures because I want the viewer to occupy that space, to be the one who decides how to approach the basilica and what it represents. The trees on the sides frame the composition as if they were ancient witnesses, detached from history yet present within it.
