Enrique Tábara (1930–2021) fue un pintor ecuatoriano nacido en Guayaquil, formado en la Escuela de Bellas Artes local y reconocido por fusionar influencias europeas y precolombinas en su obra. En la década de 1950 obtuvo una beca para estudiar en Barcelona, donde entabló relación con figuras como André Breton y Joan Miró y se vinculó al informalismo europeo. Tras su etapa europea regresó a Ecuador (1964) y, junto a otros artistas, fundó el grupo VAN (Vanguardia Artística Nacional) en oposición al realismo social dominante.
