Tony Rubin has played competitive chess at club, county and weekend toumament levels for over 20 years. In 1991 he represented British Telecom in the European Postal and Telecommunications Chess Championships in Norway. As well as playing Tony Rubin has been writing about chess for many years with a regular column in Computer Weekly and contributing to the British Chess Magazine from time to time. On top of all this Tony was a very active junior chess coach in Suffolk prior to his recent posting to Singapore. Amongst the children he coached were several who have been selected to represent England at various age levels.
John Emms is one of England's talented array of young Intemational Masters playing professional chess on the UK, European and the wider intemational circuit. John graduated from Nottingham University in 1989 and gained the 1M title one year later. He has scored consistently high1y in the British Championships coming 4th in 1990. At the World Open in Philadelphia in 1991 only a last round defeat prevented him from becoming World Open champion. John was coach to Kenya before and during the 1990 Chess Olympiad and has also been involved in coaching some of England's top juniors over the last two years.
